Vardø harbour

Welcome to the municipality of Vardø!
The municipality consists of the village of Kiberg on the mainland and the town of Vardø on an island with a mainland connection through North Europe’s very first subsea tunnel. The municipality has a population of about 2400 inhabitants, and people settled here due to the rich fishing resources in the Arctic. The first traces of settlement date back to 4000-5000 BC.

Vardø – in the far east of Varanger – a town with the world’s northernmost fortress, the only West European town in the Arctic climate zone, Norway’s easternmost town, North Norway’s oldest town. The oldest fishing village in Norwegian Lapland, the town of witch trials and the Pomor capital.

Google Translate  is a service provided by Google Inc. to translate a section of text, or a webpage, into another language. Even though it does a decent job, it's certainly not perfect, but the people at Google Inc. are working on improvements. Even today's most sophisticated software doesn't approach the fluency of a native speaker or possess the skills of a professional translator. Automatic translation is very difficult, as the meaning of words depends on the context in which they're used. While the automatic translation has its quirks, it can help you access content you might otherwise be unable to read.

Google Translate isn't able to translate some of the content, like the menus at the top of the page, and if you click an item on the Services (Tjenester) menu, the webpage will revert back to norwegian language.
